Future Technical Development

A few ideas about possible future technical developments:

Community Homepage Functionality

1. First we need a way to identify librarians as a user group.

2. Then we need a way to identify our material within SOL*R. Scott suggested we get our own unique Item Type, since this would allow us to customize various things. E.g. customize the submission process, tweak the metadata fields, etc.

3. Then we could get a "private search" of our collection only.

Unique Metadata fields

See step 2 above.

Multiple disciplines classification

Scott is considering making this part of the next rollout. It would allow librarian LO to be classified both in our unique discipline and also in the appropriate academic discipline, e.g. Chemistry, which would improve findability for anyone browsing Chemistry LO.

Peer review

Once we have a unique item type, we could customize the submission workflow, e.g. adding editorial review. I'm not saying we should do that, just that it would be possible.

OAI Harvester

It would be lovely if we could harvest records from ANTS and CORIL and any other suitable repository and then allow them all to be searched at once.
