"Upload Your Learning Objects" Contest: Award Winners!

Academic librarians in BC create an amazing array of guides, handouts, and tutorials to support them in their instructional duties. The LINK Committee knows this because more than 50 of these “learning objects” were recently uploaded to the ALPS LINK repository. All were eligible to win prizes in the LINK Learning Object Uploading Contest, and the judging committee struggled over how to separate the wonderful from the merely great. In the end eleven individuals and teams were recognized with prizes. The awards ceremony took place at the ALPS meeting on December 7.

The winning objects include database guides, information literacy tutorials, bookmarks, animated tutorials, videos, and much more. The "Wish List": Announcing our spring '08 campaign

Says Patti: "I’ve been looking for a good in-class activity for my academic upgrading students that will allow them to interact with popular and scholarly literature and understand the differences. Have you got something that works for you? Would you be willing to share?

Or perhaps you are are struggling to develop a research guide or handout on a particular topic. Are you wondering if a librarian elsewhere in BC might have already created something you could use or adapt?"

Announcing the LINK Learning Object Repository's campaign for spring 2008: the "Wish List". The goal is to connect librarians developing new instructional materials with colleagues who have already faced similar challenges. The first stage is to collect librarians' wish lists. Can you complete the blank in this sentence: "I wish I had a handout/guide/in-class activity on ____________." If so, bring us your ideas! We will compile the list, and then put it back out to the community to start making the connections. All learning objects which result from this campaign will (we hope) be made available to the world via the LINK repository.
