ALPS December meeting:

Date: Friday, December 5th

Theme: Instruction

One confirmed speaker, Colleen Bell from UFV. Colleen has deposited her tutorial Online Library Assignment into ALPS LINK. See: http://journals.ufv.ca/library/first_year/

ALPS LINK/BC ELN Formalized Relationship:

This relationship has been formalized effective the last ALPS Executive meeting, Friday August 15, 2008. Please see: http://sharelibraryresources.pbwiki.com/ALPS+LINK+-+BC+ELN+Partnership+Proposal for more information.

Action: Speak with Gordon about adding a “featured tutorial” to the BC ELN website in the “What’s New” section of the website.

Local Champions:

Kathy Plett of College of New Caledonia Library joined the Local Champions team.

Action: All to contact local champions by the end of September to give them the “heads up” on the fall campaign and tell them about the formalized connection with BC ELN.

Fall Campaign:

Nominate your colleagues great tutorials, guides, etc.

From our last newsletter,

"Fall Campaign Preview: Laud a Librarian

This is to give you a tantalizing glimpse of the fall 2008 promotion campaign. We all know that librarians are

perfectionists; our own work is never quite good enough for our standards. At the same time, we constantly see

colleagues turning out great guides, handouts, and webpages that we use all the time. Well, if our colleagues are

too shy to nominate their own work for inclusion in LINK, we'll just have to do it for them!

The fall campaign will ask you to let us know when you discover great guides and learning objects created

by librarians at your or other academic libraries. Maybe you're answering a question on AskAway and discover the

amazing resource that another librarian has put together. Well, don't keep it a secret! Let us know! We'll ask

that librarian for permission to include their learning object in LINK. This will help other librarians discover

that learning object too."

Action: Heather to ask Sunni about sending a message through Ask Away listserve. Sunni may have ideas too about best timing for Ask Away providers.

Action: All to think about prizes for December ALPS meeting.

Marketing Plan for Fall Campaign (DATES):

  • Sept ??? Connect with local champions to give them the “heads up” on the campaign
  • Sept 30th ALPS LINK newsletter sent out via ALPS listserv
  • Oct 7th send message via ALPS list publicizing fall campaign (different wording for AskAway and ALPS list messages)
